How do I look better on Instagram?

We’ve all seen those super hipster photos of a coffee cup from Starbucks and a cheesy saying next to it typed in a girly, handwritten font (I’m guilty of making photos like these). Sure, they can be cliche, but some photos with text overlays turn out quite nice, like these.

Don’t overdo it, though, or you might as well start running your own inspirational-motivational-blog-on-Tumblr.

Text overlays are a visually appealing way to enhance your photos, whether it’s for Instagram, Facebook, or any other purpose you want. Not everybody owns or knows how to effectively utilize Photoshop (plus, it can be time consuming), so the innovators of the world came up with the brilliant idea of creating user-friendly apps that allow you to quickly and easily add text to your photos. Every week, I’d like to share one of my favorites with you so together, we can make the world a cheesier place (just kidding).

I managed to snag this app while it was still free in the app store. Unfortunately, it now costs $1.99, but it still ranks high on my list of favorite apps for text overlays! Over offers a variety of text and artwork overlays that are fully customizable. You can pay more money for more font and artwork packs, but the default packs alone are already stunning. In Over, you can nudge, size, change the color/opacity, copy, and center your artwork and text. You can also choose to tint and crop your photos. Sharing options include email, text message, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and more! I highly recommend this app for adding text/artwork to your photos quickly and easily.

I’ll send another creative app recommendation your way next week! Stay tuned!
